Join us in Welcoming Jonathan Leibowitz as New Executive Director
We are pleased to announce that Jonathan Leibowitz will assume the role of executive director starting August 30.
“The Northeast Wilderness Trust will benefit greatly from the extensive experience and strategic thinking Jon has demonstrated consistently throughout his career,” said Annie Faulkner, president of the board of directors. “He is a committed conservationist and a true champion of wilderness who is ready to advance our mission. With his vision and passion for wilderness, Jon is great fit for the Trust and we are thrilled he is joining us.”
As executive director, Jon will plan our wildlands conservation work, cultivate new partnerships and donors, and manage daily operations. He will create on the ground strategies to achieve our five-year goal to increase land protected by the Northeast Wilderness Trust from nearly 25,000 acres to 35,000 acres by 2020.
Jon formerly served as the executive director of the Montezuma Land Conservancy in Cortez, Colorado where he drove the long-term vision and daily management of the organization. Jon received a Master’s in Environmental Law and Policy in 2008 and a Juris Doctor in 2011, both from Vermont Law School. Jon is actively engaged in the work of the Land Trust Alliance and has attended numerous advanced leadership trainings. He is committed to regional community service and has served on the Resource Advisory Committee for the San Juan National Forest and as an adjunct professor at Green Mountain College teaching Environmental Law and Policy.
“My interest in working for the Northeast Wilderness Trust stems from my appreciation for the New England forested landscape,” Jon said. “I am an ardent believer in the marriage of traditional private land conservation with wilderness protection.”
“It is something I am deeply passionate about,” he said. “The wilderness landscape is at the core of who I am. It is an honor to serve as the executive director of Northeast Wilderness Trust.”
We look forward to introducing Jon to you as he gets settled in. If you are in the area stop by our office in Montpelier, VT to say hello!
