Northern Green Mountains
Active Program Area
The Northeast Wilderness Trust is working with US and Canadian partners to implement a regional landscape-scale conservation plan in the northern border area of Vermont. While the coalition has effectively utilized science to map conservation priorities, more work is needed to translate this vision into tangible, on-the-ground land protection. The coalition intends to protect roughly 40,000 contiguous acres, roughly split by the U.S.– Canada border. The long-term goal is to preserve a habitat and wilderness recreation linkage from Mount Mansfield, Vermont to Mount Sutton, Quebec. The Northern Green Mountains initiative is supported by numerous conservation groups including Appalachian Corridor Appalachien, Two Countries One Forest, Wildlands Network, The Nature Conservancy, Nature Conservancy Canada, Sweet Water Trust, and the Northeast Wilderness Trust.
